Practising scales with a click

Two months of metronome work condensed into one take. Nothing here is fast; it is just even, which turned out to be the harder problem.

The practice log

The thing that actually moved the needle was writing down the tempo every session, not the notes. A plain text file, one line a day:

2026-05-04  ♩=72   clean
2026-05-05  ♩=76   sloppy on the turn
2026-05-07  ♩=76   clean, +4 next time

Four clicks up only when the previous tempo was clean two days running. No exceptions, no heroics.

Why the click helps

A metronome does not make you faster. It makes the unevenness impossible to ignore, and unevenness is the thing you can actually fix. Speed is just the reward for having fixed it.
